Team Lauryn

LaurynTeam Lauryn helps support an academic scholarship in memory of Lauryn Ossola, a young woman and former YMCA Stingray and SHS Lady Knight’s swimmer who died tragically in an accident in 2011 at the age of 23. The Lauryn E. Ossola SHS Lady Knights Swim & Dive Team Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating swimmer of the SHS Lady Knights Swim & Dive Team who will be attending a four year college or university.

In her short time on this earth, Lauryn made a huge impact on all who knew her. To her swimming teammates and coaches, she was known as the girl with the big smile who worked harder than anyone in the pool. This scholarship strives to remember and honor not only Lauryn's swimming accomplishments but also her enthusiastic approach to swimming and life.

Please help us remember Lauryn and carry on her legacy of kindness by joining Team Lauryn this year!

It is with very mixed emotions that we announce that this will be the final year we are fundraising for Team Lauryn.  That being the case, we are thrilled that due to the incredible support we have received over the past 10 years, we will continue to award a scholarship in Lauryn’s memory for many, many years to come.  We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve had for the past 10 years, and we hope that this year will be another great turnout!  Registration is open for our 2021 “Team Lauryn” Apple Harvest Road Race event, which supports the Lauryn E. Ossola SHS Lady Knights Swim & Dive Team Scholarship.  This past May, we had the honor of awarding the ninth scholarship to Madeline Symecko, a very well deserving Southington High School senior.  Maddie displays passion, enthusiasm, and an outstanding work ethic for swimming, academics, and life, similar to what Lauryn exhibited throughout her 23 years.  Maddie will be attending Springfield College and majoring in Biology.

We would love to have you join us on Sunday, October 3, 2021, as “Team Lauryn” runs/walks the Southington Apple Harvest Festival Road Race (5k or 5 mile), sponsored by the Southington YMCA.  We have set up a website where you can learn a little more about Lauryn, as well as sign on as a “Team Lauryn” member.  When you go to you will find a link to the registration site, or you can go to the YMCA site to register directly:  Please be sure to scroll down the registration page and select a “Team Lauryn” event!  This year it is especially important to register as early as possible, because due to COVID19 delays and supply issues we are unable to guarantee t-shirts by a certain date.  Team Lauryn t-shirts will be allocated on a first registered, first served basis, so the sooner you register, the better chance you have of getting your t-shirt by race day.

You are receiving this email because of your connection to Lauryn, to us, or because out of the goodness of your heart you’ve joined us for a Team Lauryn event in the past.  We continue to do everything we possibly can to honor and respect Lauryn’s life, to keep her memory and spirit alive, and through this scholarship to pay forward the blessing of Lauryn’s life.  She continues to live on through each and every one of us, and her remarkable spirit will forever be remembered, always leaving its impression on us, and always keeping us smiling.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued love, support, and consideration of this event.  We are truly blessed that Lauryn touched so many wonderful people in her short time on this earth and brought them into our lives to help us carry on and heal in so many ways.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us, and please feel free to forward this on to anyone else who may be interested.  We’re hoping for a beautiful day and a big turnout on October 3rd!

With love and gratitude,

The Ossolas
