CURE CREW
A lifelong Southington resident, Ava Bedard became a “Y kid” at a very young age—participating in many Southington-Chesire YMCA classes, camps, and programs. In July of 2023, at the age of fifteen and having just completed time as a counselor in training at Camp Sloper, Ava was shockingly diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a very rare form of cancer.
Over the course of approximately nine months, Ava endured frontline treatment consisting of fourteen rounds of chemotherapy and over forty rounds of proton radiation. Ava was declared to be in remission in April of 2024. However, Ava had to resume treatment in October of 2024 following a recurrence of the disease. Throughout her treatment, Ava has battled her illness with courage, grace, positivity and kindness.
Ava is a senior at Miss Porter’s School in Farmington. Ava’s younger sister, Olivia, is a sophomore at Miss Porter’s. In addition to Ava’s invaluable medical treatment and love and support from friends and family, the overwhelming support from the Miss Porter’s community has helped Ava and her family get through some of the darkest of days.
Friends and families of Miss Porter’s, including students, parents, teachers, and administrators, have banded together as the Cure Crew for the second year in a row to help raise funds to beat childhood cancer. $10 of each registration fee will go back to the Cure Crew. The Cure Crew’s proceeds from this year’s race will be donated to the Little Warrior Foundation—an amazing charity dedicated to finding and funding a lasting cure for Ewing Sarcoma.
In addition to their own race entry fees, Paul & Sylvia Bedard, Ava’s parents, will be supplementing funds via an additional family donation. Please consider joining the Cure Crew to raise funds to help find a cure for Ewing Sarcoma.
If you would like to donate but cannot participate in the race, please contact Paul Bedard at [email protected] or at (860) 620-9460.
